During the interview, iCub asked the interviewees a set of\u00a0<strong>questions<\/strong>\u00a0and performed a set of<strong>\u00a0<\/strong><strong>actions<\/strong>\u00a0meant to evoke different <strong>Comfortability<\/strong> levels (i.e,\u00a0<em>complementing, interrupting, ignoring and\/or misunderstanding them<\/em>).<figure id=\"attachment_11656\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-11656\" style=\"width: 332px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-11656\" src=\"https:\/\/opentalk.iit.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/valentina-p.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"332\" height=\"187\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-11656\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.iit.it\/it\/web\/guest\/people-details\/-\/people\/john-conteh\">John Santigie Conteh<\/a> is a PhD Student Fellow of the IIT <a href=\"https:\/\/www.iit.it\/it\/web\/nanomaterials-for-biomedical-applications\">Nanomaterials for Biomedical Applications Research<\/a> line.<\/figcaption><\/figure>&nbsp;<strong>Ciao John, could you please describe me your PhD project?<\/strong><em>My project is based on the development of nanomaterials for biomedical applications. To be specific, the project aims to produce polymeric-inorganic nanoparticle platforms that can load and release anti-cancer drugs into the tumor, when externally triggered. The PI involved is Dr. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.iit.it\/it\/web\/nanomaterials-for-biomedical-applications\/our-staff-details\/-\/people\/teresa-pellegrino\">Teresa Pellegrino.<\/a><\/em><strong>How can you relate robotics or AI within your research?<\/strong><em>The field is based on synthesis, so AI and robotics can play an important role in fast tracking production of the nanoparticles. In my lab, we currently make use of a form of robotic device \u201cNimbus\u201d to accelerate the synthesis of a class of polymeric nanomaterial.<\/em><strong>Did you know iCub before you got involved into this experiment?<\/strong><em>Yes, I knew that there is a robot called iCub in IIT but I\u2019ve never seen it seen until the day of the experiment.\u00a0<\/em><strong>What did you expect about the interaction with the robot before finding yourself in front of it and how was it once the interview ended?<\/strong><em>I was expecting a boring conversation but it turns out to be quite advance discussion.<\/em><strong>Were you comfortable or uncomfortable? Why?<\/strong><em>I was comfortable until iCub started making so unusual sounds which get me scared.<\/em><strong>Do you think it was funny?<\/strong><em>I think the robot interview was more fascinating than being funny to me.<\/em><strong>How can you imagine in the future a humanoid robot in your daily life at work or at home?<\/strong><em>If adequately programed, I think humanoid robots can be just like normal advance instrument in the lab taking care of some repetitive tasks.<\/em><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>This\u00a0<a href=\"\/?p=11093\">new column<\/a>\u00a0of the online magazine IIT OpenTalk will try to show some aspects of how important and hard is to build robots capable of interacting with humans in a daily basis.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>Reference<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>M.E.L.
