They are called Principal Investigators, but for insiders, they are simply PIs
They are senior researchers in charge of an area of research, responsible for implementing the scientific programme, budget management and the coordination of a team of people. But who in actual fact are they? In a 2019 article, Nature Careers Community entitled “Principal investigators are people, too”. In this column, by posing a selection of questions, the same for all our interviewees, week by week we will try to get to know the 79 PIs at IIT. We will discover different portraits, evoking decisions, dedication, creativity, success, disappointment and sometimes even anger, in a profession that inevitably ends up being much more than just a job, every day reserving new challenges for the researchers performing this role.
